  Performance-Based Budgeting
Making the OMB Scorecard Work for You

Join leading budget experts as they provide a practical overview of performance-based budgeting (PBB). Through hands-on training, this course explores measurement concepts and PBB implementation in your organization. We also discuss important aspects of this reform effort, including:

  • Performance-based budgeting to provide more information on budget process performance and to specifically tie resources with results

  • Assessment tools that OMB uses to rate agency programs

  • Green score achievement on the President's Management Agenda’s five objectives

  • Hands-on exercises covering important performance measurement concepts, including outputs and outcomes

  • How to implement a performance-based budget

  • Linking performance-based budgeting to other managerial reform efforts in the federal government, including the Government Performance and Results Act and the Chief Financial Officers' Act

Students discuss examples of other governments that have tried to implement performance-based budgeting, identifying the necessary conditions for successful implementation of this important reform and some of the pitfalls that may hinder success.

Rave Reviews "For this topic, you could not have pulled together more competent resources - their command of the topic, even the most up-to-date info, was clearly in evidence. [The most useful aspect of the program was] the presentation by speakers and the richness of the handouts for future reference."
-- Asst. Chief, Office of Budget, U.S. Coast Guard

"Great course, lots of info.  Will help me understand GPRA and budget development."
