George Mason University CEU Credits from George Mason University
(Continuing Education Units = CEUs)

Our courses are approved for CEUs by George Mason University (GMU).

What is a CEU credit?

CEU is an acronym for Continuing Education Unit.  The CEU credit is a nationally recognized unit of measurement for participation in non-credit continuing education programs. Adults who participate in TheCapitol.Net's courses that have been approved by George Mason University may be awarded CEUs.

Custom on-site training programs from TheCapitol.Net can also be approved for CEUs from GMU; speak with your Client Liaison for details.

Is a CEU credit like a CLE or CPE credit?

No.  CEU credits are not the same as CLE (Continuing Legal Education) credits.  For information about CLE credits, please see our CLE page.

What courses from TheCapitol.Net earn CEUs?

When you see a symbol like this in a course description, it means that CEUs have been approved by George Mason University (GMU) for that course.  When you sign in at the course registration table, your course materials will include a statement of the CEUs approved for that course, and instructions about how to get a CEU Certificate from George Mason University.

Custom on-site training programs from TheCapitol.Net can also be approved for CEUs from GMU; speak with your Client Liaison for details.

How are CEU credits calculated?

One CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience. A CEU can be awarded in whole units or fractions of a unit (one-tenth unit) for each contact hour.

What are the benefits of CEU credits?

The objectives of awarding CEU credits are to:

  • Encourage adult students to utilize educational resources to meet their personal and educational needs.
  • Recognize individuals that continue their education and keep themselves current in their chosen occupations and professions.
  • Enable individuals to have an accurate source of their current CEU activity.

How Do Attendees Receive CEU Certificates?

Attendees who have completed an approved course sponsored by TheCapitol.Net and want to receive a CEU Certificate must contact George Mason University, Office of Continuing Professional Education, 4400 University Drive, MS 2G2, Fairfax, VA 22030. Phone: 703-993-2109 Fax: 703-993-2121. The cost to a student to receive a CEU Certificate is $30 per course, payable to GMU. GMU mails a GMU Certificate that includes the date(s) of the program, the name of the sponsoring organization (TheCapitol.Net), the title of the course, and the number of CEUs awarded for that course.

When you sign in at course registration, your program materials will include a statement of the CEUs approved for that course, and instructions how to get a CEU Certificate from George Mason University. TheCapitol.Net does not issue CEU Certificates. CEU Certificates are issued by George Mason University (see above).

Attendees at our custom on-site programs that are approved for CEU credits by GMU and who want a CEU Certificate must contact GMU as outlined above.

Who maintains a record of the CEU credits awarded to participants of TheCapitol.Net's courses?

George Mason University's Office of Continuing Professional Education maintains records of individuals who seek certification, and issues CEU Certificates, for completing TheCapitol.Net's programs. TheCapitol.Net does not maintain records for CEUs and does not issue CEU Certificates.

How can I verify CEU awards?

To obtain information on qualifying courses offered by TheCapitol.Net for CEU awards, contact George Mason University, Office of Continuing Professional Education, at 703-993-2109. Please include your name, social security number, address and name(s) and date(s) of the course(s) you have attended.

TheCapitol.Net does not issue CEU Certificates and TheCapitol.Net does not collect social security numbers.

Does TheCapitol.Net also issue a Certificate of Training?

TheCapitol.Net does issue a Certificate of Training for each course with a note of how many CEU credits are awarded by George Mason University for that course.  However, our Certificate of Training is not a CEU Certificate, and TheCapitol.Net does not issue CEU Certificates; to obtain a CEU Certificate, you must contact George Mason University as outlined above.

TheCapitol.Net can issue Certificates of Training for custom, on-site training programs; speak with your Client Liaison for details.
